The Dream Merchants (1961)
Harold Robbins · Pocket Books · Paperback
From the sleazy nickelodeons to the glittering studios of Hollywood’s golden age, The Dream Merchants is Harold Robbins at his most shamelessly addictive—part rags-to-riches saga, part sun-drenched scandal sheet.
When restless David Kingsley ditches his small-town life, he dives headfirst into the rising world of motion pictures. With ambition as his compass and desire as his fuel, he claws his way to the top—leaving a trail of broken contracts, broken hearts, and big-screen illusions in his wake.
Expect hard-drinking moguls, sultry starlets, and boardroom battles with the emotional weight of a Technicolor melodrama. Robbins doesn’t just show you how the sausage is made—he marinates it in ambition, lust, and bad decisions.
Our copy at Crappy Old Books smells faintly of sun lotion and moral decay, with a cover that looks like it once lay poolside in Palm Springs. It’s crinkled, yellowed, and totally irresistible—just like the story inside.
Perfect for readers who like their fiction soapy, cinematic, and served with a side of scandal.
NOTE: This book has been taken to the beach and has sand in it. this has caused the book to swell slightly near the spine giving is a very organic feel. The binding is all book and there is no water damage, its just left the spine a sort of concave shape. All pages are firm in the binding and perfectly readable. Ideal if you want to impress friends by letting them know you read classics such as this at the beach.
Also, it has a stamp from American Bookstores Athens - Aimail on the inside front page. Not sure what that means.
This is a rare Robbins book as he only sold 150 million books at the time of this being sold in 1961. Very rare.
